Along the Hollinwood Canal - 6 |
After the motorway crossing, the edging stones along the side of the former towpath are clearly seen along the next stretch, with the canal in standing water alongside. Young trees are growing in the canal bed.
A little further ahead, the canal has been infilled and grassed over as far as Stannybrook Road.

Shortly, the canal reaches Stannybrook Road, where a steep-sided hump bridge has been removed. The road now crosses at around towpath level.

After crossing Stannybrook Road, the canal enters what is now Daisy Nook Country Park. The line of the canal for the first 100 metres or so has become part of the visitors' car park.
A restoration of the canal here may involve having to re-site the car park. The John Howarth Countryside Centre, which sells drinks and hot snacks, is built partly on the canal line.
